The Alliance was
approached early in 2007 about a very special project for the
2007 Nutcracker Ballet performance to be held in our local
theatre, Theatre Dublin. It was the dream of
Toni Head, Executive Director of the Theatre Dublin
Nutcracker committee, that a new backdrop be created in
dedication to one of Dublin's prominent families, the Lovetts.
The backdrop is a magnificent representation of the original
Lovett home that stands as stately today as it ever has on Bellevue Avenue in
Dublin. This backdrop is used in the opening scene of the
ballet where guests approach "the Stahlbaum's Home" for the
Christmas party.
Toni also looked to
the Alliance for the creation of a new and unusual prop to be used
in the "Land of the Sweets" scene. A very active
local volunteer created the armature for this unusual prop and
the crowing glory was created out of paper mache. The prop Toni
Head wanted was a giant cupcake from
which 9 dancers would emerge during the performance.
To the left and
right, are images (a pictorial history) of the creation of the
new backdrop and prop. Click on an image to enlarge it.
Below is an excerpt from the shows' program.
